Athita Kuankachorn
Musician, Educator, and Content Creator
Athita is originally from Bangkok, Thailand. She grew her passion for cello from playing in the youth orchestras, and later become an orchestral cellist, chamber musician, and music teacher. She has performed with various orchestras including the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and Longmont Symphony Orchestra, and performed in numerous festivals in Thailand and Belgium.
She loves exploring a broad range of repertoire from Baroque to contemporary and often works with contemporary composers. Athita is also an ethnomusicologist focusing on Thai bowed string instruments. She arranges Thai traditional music, and composes and explores Thai sound on the cello to create her own cultural identity in making music. From her perspective, not only should musicians learn and play great music from the past, but seek to adapt it or even innovate music for the 21-century world.
Athita got her bachelor of music from Rangsit University in Thailand and her master of art from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Belgium. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Northern Colorado.
